On January 10th, 2025, the TTB updated its regulations to allow more container sizes for wine and spirits. These changes include:

• Adding 13 new standard sizes for wine and 15 new standard sizes for distilled spirits
  • See updated wine standards of fill
  • See updated distilled spirits standards of fill
• Lifting restrictions on distilled spirits in cans, meaning all approved sizes can now be used for cans and other containers

Background:

• In May 2022, the TTB proposed adding 10 new sizes for wine and considered limiting spirit container sizes to a single minimum
• After reviewing public feedback, the TTB decided to revisit the issue in September 2024, asking for more input on new sizes for both wine and spirits

The Final Decision:
Instead of removing existing size options, the TTB added all the new sizes suggested in its earlier proposals. This change gives producers more flexibility in how they package wine and spirits, meeting growing consumer demand for diverse and convenient options.
